M.E.A.T. - 5 Song Demo tape review

This name makes me think of that classic line, «I hanker for a hunk of cheese». But, kidding aside, I think a lot of people would Hanker for a listen to this Quebec act. Heavily influenced from the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and especially Savatage, Hanker are into large arena rock. Opener Disturbing The Brain fits the aforementioned description to a 'T' - especially the Savatage tag, and this continues on through This Could Be Heaven, which has a cool slow opening; Staring At The Rain, also has a slow opening that builds nicely into an Ozzy-ish flurry; the faster Madly Alive, and then the Maiden/Priest-ish Rain Of Death. Despite the many comparisons, Hanker are a solid band with memorable songs that are easy to listen to - meaning they don't repel you with a lot of gothic drone. This tape has been produced with a lot of air and largeness, and the well-rehearsed playing is exceptional and tight. Considering most of this style of music is really cheesy, I'll Hanker for a hunk of Hanker anytime.
