Stormbringer Webzine: Interview with Hanker

Hanker are a traditional heavy metal band from Quebec, Canada. Hanker are Pascal Cliche on Lead Vocals, Guitar and Keyboards, Patrick Gravel on Guitar and Backing Vocals, Martin Jones on Bass, Luc Guay on Drums.

Stormbringer Webzine - How would you classify your music?

Hanker - For us it's Heavy Metal.

Stormbringer Webzine - Do you all have day jobs and if so what do you do?

Hanker - Pascal is studying to be a school teacher, Patrick teaches history in a high school, Luc works for the provincial government and Martin is a foreman in a snowboard shop. Playing our music full time is what we all hanker for.

Stormbringer Webzine - How did the band get together?

Hanker - We've known each other since childhood, and one day we decided to start a band and here we are today...Hanker!

Stormbringer Webzine - What are your musical backgrounds?

Hanker - We all learned by ourselves. We've always played with a critical ear and with our hearts and guts.

Stormbringer Webzine - What kind of music do you like to listen to when your not playing?

Hanker - Just to name a few; Helloween, Metal Church, Deep Purple, old Iron Maiden, Rush...and of course Hanker.

Stormbringer Webzine - What do you do to relax?

Hanker - Sit around together, have a beer and talk about the good and sometimes strange things that have happened at our shows.

Stormbringer Webzine - If you had the chance to jam with any band, who would that be?

Hanker - For the four of us, together we wouldn't mind jamming with Helloween, individually Patrick would jam with Iron Maiden, Luc with Rush, Pascal with Kiss and Martin with Yes.

Stormbringer Webzine - What's the best thing that has ever happened to you?

Hanker - We cannot think of just one in particular, but some of the best things that have happened to us are our manager Réjean Garon, who truly believes in us and loves what we do, also there are Pierre and Steve Bégin, who run «The Official HANKER Web Site» (these guys are just incredibly supportive of Hanker), and of course, all our fans!

Stormbringer Webzine - What's the worst thing that has ever happened to you?

Hanker - The worst thing is that we haven't been on a world tour yet... we're Hankering to go on one soon!

Stormbringer Webzine - Who writes the songs?

Hanker - Most of the songs are written by Pascal and Patrick, but a lot of times the songs come alive when all 4 of us work on them.

Stormbringer Webzine - Where do you get your inspiration from?

Hanker - We don't really know where it precisely comes from, but it comes naturally.

Stormbringer Webzine - Who thought of the bands name and how did you choose it?

Hanker - Pascal was with a friend of his and opened up a dictionary, seeing the word «Hanker», he read the definition and ever since that day it has been the official band's name.

Stormbringer Webzine - Which are your personal favorite songs and why?

Hanker - We have many personal favourite songs, it would take up a whole interview to discuss them. But let's say ours rank among the best! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Stormbringer Webzine - Do you play many gigs and if so where?

Hanker - We are playing in the Quebec City area for now, but we cannot wait to go overseas and play for you, guys!

Stormbringer Webzine - What is your view of the music scene in Quebec?

Hanker - The music scene in Quebec sucks!

Stormbringer Webzine - What bands would you say have had most influence on you?

Hanker - Bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metal Church, Deep Purple, Kiss, Helloween and others from the Metal Scene in the 80s.

Stormbringer Webzine - What are your plans for the future?

Hanker - A third studio album, a live album and hopefully a European tour.

Stormbringer Webzine - Any last words or remarks?

Hanker - Thanks a million for the interview, it's thanks to people like you that we feel that we are doing something special. We also want to thank all our fans all over the world, thanks for believing in us! ! !
