Angra with Hanker and Sequence For their first visit in the old capital (but their second in the province of Québec), our Brazilians of ANGRA stopped at the Impérial de Québec in front of a very enthusiastic crowd but unfortunately not much in numbers. In order to start the ball, a new a band from the Montreal area, SEQUENCE, has performed in support of their first album called Plague Solstice – Part I and where also features Spelldown's former guitarist, Jacques Marcoux. Their style incorporating two types of vocals (traditional and occasionally death) passes rather well on stage and pleased the fans who witnessed their performance. Set list: Crimson Waters - Messenger / Beyond Nothing / Swamplords / Swarmed
Set list: Intro / Ad Patres / You Won't Live Eternally / Inside Me / Stigmata / Empower / Let Me Out / Hail To You / The Search Now for the headliners. Hidden behind a backdrop to the image of the Rebirth album, our six Brazilian (for the occasion with the addition of a keyboard player) took place on a long, very long intro before starting the hostilities on Spread Your Fire taken from their latest album Temple Of Shadows which they have very well defended on stage. Edu (Falaschi - vocals) was speaking to us in French on the major part of his interventions and his charisma and smile have largely played in the ambiance of this performance. The ever accomplices, Kiko Loureiro and Rafael Bittencourt, form an outstanding pair of guitarists and their percussion performance during Carolina IV has added a lot of color to this evening. As for the rhythm section, Felipe Andreoli (bass) offered an impeccable musical performance but as opposite to Edu, doesn't seem as expressive, a qualifyer that we can't really attribute to Aquiles Priester and his cymbal problems during the show. This rhythm section gave us a feast for our eyes and ears with an amazing performance that can later machine-gun the rhythms, offer some prog subtleties and then continue with some Brazilian rhythms. Although the majority of the set-list was built around the last two albums featuring this line-up, the first classics of the band such as Carry On, Angels Cry and Nothing To Say have not missed to raise the ambiance in the Imperial. After a show of an hour and forty minutes, the members of the band took their time to greet the fans piled up in front of the stage and personally give some memorabilias to the luckiest ones. ANGRA is a must see band on stage!!! Set list: Intro / Spread Your Fire / Waiting Silence / Acid Rain / Nothing To Say / Carolina IV / Angels And Demons / Never Understand / Wishing Well / Wings Of Destination / Rebirth / Angels Cry - Encore - Carry On (with excerpt of Temple Of Hate) / Nova Era Click here to see the pictures. Thanks to Simon of Fusion III as well as Martin Bouchard and Alain Gagnon of Capital du Métal for their excellent collaboration. Source: The Metal's Den, gig review, September 13, 2005 |
